NAAIA National Announces
New Chapter in Charlotte
Board reactivates Cleveland and renames DC chapter
Washington, DC – The National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) announces the chartering of the NAAIA Charlotte Chapter. Seated in Charlotte, North Carolina, the chapter covers the metropolitan area of Charlotte, Concord, Gastonia, Statesville and Salisbury, NC and Rock Hill, Chester and Lancaster, SC. Through its chapter network, NAAIA members engage together for social and professional networking and dynamic programming featuring leaders in their own city.
With a record high of 63 members at charter, the Charlotte chapter is led by President Omar J. Powell, Assistant Vice President, Middle Market Alternative Risk Underwriting Solutions Team Leader at Sompo International, and Vice President LaTasha Sinclair, Middle & Large Commercial Product Owner at The Hartford.
“I thank Omar and LaTasha for their efforts to create a network of talented industry professionals together to experience professional and personal development through NAAIA,” said Clive McCarthy, NAAIA National Board Member and Chapter Development Chair. “The work to sustain Charlotte’s membership growth and presence in the region begins now to ensure a positive impact on the insurance industry in this market.”
“NAAIA continues to pay dividends as the organization has made significant impact on my matriculation as a student, insurance professional, and now as a leader,” said Powell. “The board and I are very excited to spearhead this establishment and are confident about the value it will bring to insurance professionals and the broader Charlotte community.”
Additionally, the Board took two further actions regarding the association’s chapter network:
Reactivated the NAAIA Cleveland Chapter, originally chartered in 2009. NAAIA Cleveland is being led by President Diauntae Morrow, President and CEO of Morrow Group & Co. and Vice President Yolanda Shelton, Principal Agent at Allegiance Insurance Group LLC.
Renamed the NAAIA National Capitol-Central Maryland chapter the NAAIA Metro DC Chapter to better reflect its geographic territory and in preparation for further expansion in Maryland and Virginia. The Metro DC Chapter is led by President Amir Ali and Vice President John Greene.
“Now in our 26th year, the updates to our chapter network show that NAAIA is just as strong and vibrant today as it was when we were founded,” said Omari Jahi Aarons, Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer. “We are excited about our continued growth and look forward to bringing NAAIA to more communities across the country.”
